Griffenfeldsgade 6 – Façade Renovation

In the heart of Nørrebro, the building at Griffenfeldsgade 6 stands as a meeting point between history and the present. Here, a classic Copenhagen façade has been carefully recreated – with respect for the original details and an understanding of contemporary urban life.

The result is an elegant and harmonious façade, where the building’s classical features once again come to the forefront, executed with care and respect for its historical character.

Project Background

The renovation was initiated with a clear objective: to restore the building to its original expression while creating a framework that supports vibrant city life. When the commercial tenant on the ground floor vacated the premises, an opportunity arose to upgrade the building as a whole.

This has brought new life to the façade and today contributes to a more lively and welcoming streetscape in the heart of Nørrebro.

Execution and Choice of Materials

The façade has been recreated with a rendered surface and colours that reflect the building’s original style. The light upper section contrasts calmly with the darker base, giving the building both balance and depth. The horizontal lines and fields that define the façade between the floors are painted in an intermediate tone, highlighting the building’s architectural details. Windows, doors, and the entrance gate are painted black, creating a timeless and modern appearance.

Silicate paint has been used for the painting work, chosen for its durability and breathability. This allows moisture to escape from the façade, making it easier to maintain over time. All materials were selected to combine classical aesthetics with modern standards of quality and longevity, ensuring the façade remains beautiful for many years to come.

Details and Overall Impression

As part of the project, the entrance passage was also renewed. New tiles inspired by the original pattern were installed, allowing historical details to continue interacting with the updated expression.

The renovation strikes a balance between preservation and renewal, giving the building a contemporary and refined appearance that fits naturally into the area’s architectural context.

Result

Today, Griffenfeldsgade 6 stands as an example of how traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques can work together. The façade appears vibrant, elegant, and full of character – a sight that benefits residents, passers-by, and new commercial tenants alike, including a wine bar on the ground floor.

A Copenhagen classic has been given new life – with respect for the past and an eye toward the future.
